Norton DNS for home use

There are thousands of infected and fraudulent Web sites on the Internet, with new ones popping up every day. So how do you know if a site is safe to visit? Simple. Use FREE Norton DNS for home.

Norton DNS for Home is a free service that provides a first layer of defense by which automatically blocks unsafe Web sites and safe guards your device when you surf the Web. On a computer, Norton DNS does not replace the comprehensive protection of a full security product such as Norton Internet Security or Norton 360. Instead, Norton DNS provides basic browsing protection and content filtering for all Web-enabled devices on your home network.

How does it work?

The Domain Name System (DNS) is like a phone book. Each time your computer visits a Web site, it needs to get the IP address of the site (computers only connect to IP addresses, not human-friendly names). When using Norton DNS, you get these IP addresses quickly, plus Norton DNS performs a quick check on each site to make sure that (according to chosen protection policy) the requested Web site is not dangerous. If the requested Web site is unsafe, you will see a warning that includes information on why we rated the site as dangerous. This site rating comes from our Norton Safe Web database, which can be accessed at safeweb.norton.com. Norton Safe Web processes billions of requests each day to deliver ratings to millions of users when they are browsing or searching on the Internet.

Why use it?

Here are 9 reasons why you should choose the FREE Norton DNS:
  1. Fast and Simple to Get Started — Choose from three levels of protection. No complicated rules or settings.

  2. Acts as a First Layer of Defense — Norton DNS automatically blocks known unsafe, fraudulent, phishing and infected Web sites from entering your home network and causing harm to your devices.

  3. Blocks Unwanted Content — Norton DNS helps keep your kids safe from Web sites with undesirable content. Norton DNS blocks inappropriate content in 23 different languages.

  4. Works in the Background — Norton DNS works quietly in the background. Norton DNS notifies you when it blocks an unsafe site.

  5. No Slow Downs — Norton DNS does not take up disk space or memory. Therefore, the performance and efficiency of your computer is not affected.

  6. Protects You Entire Home Network — Norton DNS protects all Web-connected devices on your home network, including tablets, laptops, desktops, game consoles and mobile devices. Norton DNS does this without any additional software.

  7. No Software to Install — Norton DNS is a cloud-based service and does not require any software or hardware installation. Norton DNS is free for non-commercial use.

  8. Real-Time Protection — Norton DNS leverages the power of Norton Safe Web, which contains information on millions of Web sites accessed billions of times each day. Norton DNS uses data from industrial-grade Symantec content filtering. Symantec’s content categorization data includes Web sites in 23 different languages on more than 50 million Web sites.

  9. Different content filtering policies — The following three pre-defined content filtering policies are available for home and personal use:
    1. Policy 1: Security
This policy blocks all sites hosting malware, phishing sites, and scam sites.

    2. Policy 2: Security + Pornography
In addition to blocking unsafe sites, this policy also blocks access to sites that contain sexually explicit material.

    3. Policy 3: Security + Pornography + Non-Family Friendly
This policy is ideal for families with young children. In addition to blocking unsafe sites and pornography sites, this policy also blocks access to sites that feature mature content, abortion, alcohol, crime, cults, drugs, gambling, hate, sexual orientation, suicide, tobacco or violence.
